On October 21, 2021, the CDC stated that the following groups are eligible for a booster shot 6 months or more after their initial Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine series:

  • Individuals 65 years of age or older
  • Individuals 18+ who live in long-term care settings
  • Individuals 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
  • Individuals 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings

Johnson and Johnson boosters are approved and recommended for all those 18 years of age or older who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago.

The FDA has approved mixing and matching vaccines for the purposes of boosters only. A person who is eligible for the Johnson & Johnson booster may receive a Pfizer or Moderna booster instead.

Boosters are available at any location vaccines are offered.

For more information please call our Vaccine Hotline between 9am and 5pm, 7 days a week at 201-373-2316. Also, please remember to bring your vaccine card.

With the holidays approaching and the Delta variant continuing to be an impact, the New Jersey State Department of Health encourages everyone who is eligible to get their booster shots as they consider travel and gatherings for the holiday season.
