OFFICE OF SUSTAINABILITY
Jersey City’s Office of Sustainability coordinates across departments to improve the City’s sustainability practices, research and implement new community sustainability policies, develop action plans for meeting the City’s climate sustainability goals, and interface with the community to raise awareness of sustainable practices and sustainability resources.
In the spring of 2021, the Office completed Jersey City's first-ever Climate and Energy Action Plan - a detailed and strategic framework for measuring, planning, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and related climatic effects that involved extensive public outreach. The Office is currently coordinating energy efficiency upgrades to over 20 municipal buildings through the New Jersey Energy Savings Improvement Program (ESIP).
The Office of Sustainability frequently partners with other City Departments on environmental initiatives. Staff from the Office of Sustainability also serve as secretary to the Jersey City Environmental Commission and provide support to the Jersey City Shade Tree Committee.
